Opening is for a intern engineer in the Plastic lab. Selected candidate will be responsible for the planning and performance of all phases of non-metallic material testing in support of engine fabrication and engineering design hardware. Materials tested include ablatives, adhesives, pressure sensitive tapes, and flammability testing using various lab equipment. This job often supports special engineering test item fabrication using established standards, and a basic design drawing as well as maintaining accurate computer based records of all testing. Job includes consultations with engineering personnel to discuss developmental problems and recommend modifications to correct or improve.
This is an intern assignment, May/June - August 2009 and is located in Canoga Park, CA.
BS in Materials Engineering or equivalent. A minimum 3.2 GPA is required. Candidate should have an understanding of non-metallic material properties, experience with physical testing such as tensile and compression tests, lap shear, peel strength, hardness testing, viscosity, and applicable lab testing equipment. Candidate should demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and possess problem solving capabilities. Good writing and oral communication skills, organizational and strong computer knowledge is mandatory. Familiarity with Materials Specifications and working knowledge of ASTM test procedures are a plus. Must possess excellent “hands-on” skills and show ability to work with engineering drawings. Prior college internship experience is highly desirable.
