Description
CPI has paid engineering internships available for summer 2009. Our internships are project-based and provide valuable work experience in a high technology manufacturing environment. The duration of each project is 2 to 3 months. The projects may require hands on experimental proficiency, familiarity with computer simulation tools and familiarity with material characteristics. The outcome of most intern projects will be considered for actual prototype fabrication during the following year. Interns will conduct a verbal presentation to our engineering teams at the end of the project. Senior Engineers will be available for technical mentoring. Following are potential engineering intern projects:
Study the sensitivity of dimensional changes on the efficiency and electron focusing of several microwave circuits
Characterize dielectric and loss properties of selected materials at microwave frequencies. Resonant cavities will be simulated and built. Simulation and measurements will be reconciled.
Characterize (electromagnetic and/or thermomechanical) a new diamond microwave window assembly
Write scripting interfaces to several advanced electromagnetic codes
Study micro-structural changes in laser-cut Pyrolytic Graphite as a function of cutting speed and laser performance
Characterize thermo-mechanical properties of Pyrolytic Graphite — measure CTE, specific heat, thermal conductivity, etc.
Requirements
Junior or Senior level student majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Materials Engineering
Interest in gaining valuable work experience in a high technology manufacturing environment
Hands-on experimental proficiency, familiarity with computer simulation tools and familiarity with material characteristics
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
