Tetra Tech, Inc. an industry leader and nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm, has an immediate opening in our Long Beach location for the following position:
Staff Engineer / Scientist (2-TTD)
Responsibilities include: fieldwork for Phase I ESA and Phase II SI, assisting geologists during drilling and soil sampling, groundwater well sampling, free product recovery, as needed. Position will require review and analyses of analytical data, comparison, and knowledge of regulatory requirements, and data management. Will be required to conduct agency requests and research, subcontractor management, and project coordination. Position will entail working closely with project managers and clients on several projects, sometimes simultaneously. Average length of a project is approximately 6 months. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a variety of projects and get “hands-on” field experience! Will be responsible for organization of and time management.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee can be exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job Requirements :
The successful candidate will have 0 - 3 years of experience in the CA environmental industry; knowledgeable of CA regulations (hazardous waste, permitting) HAZWOPER training a plus, but not required (we will provide training). We are looking for a self-starter, someone who takes initiative who can think on their feet and who has excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and has a strong desire to learn. Proficient in MS Word, Excel are required, experience with Access, CAD and Corel draw are a plus. Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (i.e. US Citizen, Green Card Holder, or US Perm Resident). At this time we do not support VISAS.
Education Requirements:
BS in civil/environmental engineering/science or related field. Masters degree is preferred.
Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations. Fluent in Spanish preferred.
Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
