The following County departments seek qualified candidates to fill anticipated positions Countywide:
* Flood Control Department
* TLMA - Transportation Department
* Waste Management Department
This is the entry level professional engineering series. Incumbents receive office and field assignments of a less complex nature on a training basis. They are expected to develop a variety of engineering skills and abilities and are gradually given more difficult and responsible assignments.
Examples Of Duties:
* Assists in the design and planning of public works improvements, facilities, and structures by preparing plans, profiles, and cross-sections, making quantity estimates and horizontal and vertical curve alignment computations, and establishing tentative gradelines; computes earthwork, makes hydrologic and traffic flow studies, and designs simple hydraulic structures.
* Records locations on maps, reduces field notes, and sketches proposed layouts for various installations.
* Assists in conducting water quality and water rights studies, or air quality and emission modeling oriented studies; may participate in inspections during construction.
* Tabulates and summarizes statistical data and prepares reports; applies engineering techniques and practices to air and water pollution control problems.
Typical Qualifications:
OPTION I
Education: Graduation from a recognized college with a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field; Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer-in-Training issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers may substitute for the required education.
OPTION II
Experience: Current employment with Riverside County in the classification of Engineering Student Intern or completion of an engineering internship with Riverside County, and: Graduation from a recognized college with a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer-in-Training issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, within six (6) months of hire.
Knowledge of: The principles of physics and mathematics used in engineering and of their application to engineering problems; topographic and construction surveying, stress analysis, analytical mechanics, and strength of materials; engineering economics and real property descriptions.
Ability to: Prepare the less complex public works designs and make accurate drawings and maps; make accurate computations; reduce field notes and make quantity estimates; prepare reports; maintain effective working relationships with others; use and maintain engineering and technical equipment relating to materials testing, and air and water pollution control and abatement.
